Slightly pungent, long white shanks with sturdy blue-green tops. Uniform growth habit. An heirloom variety that originated in Japan as implied by the name. Tolerates hot weather. Also fairly cold tolerant, but not recommended for over-wintering. Slice into salads. Looks lovely on a veggie platter. Excellent in soups, stews, and stir-fried dishes. Resistant to Pink Root Rot, Smut, Botrytis leaf blight, and Thrips.
